Difference between the axis of rotation and orbit.

Open in App
Solution

Axis of rotation

The axis of rotation is an imaginary line passing through the centre of mass of any celestial body around which the celestial body rotates.

A simple example of rotation about a fixed axis is the motion of a compact disc in a CD player.

Orbit

An orbit is a regular, repeating path that one object in space takes around another one.

The orbit of the earth while rotating about the sun is elliptical.
