Peripheral Nervous system
1. Consists of sensory and motor neurons
2. It is not protected by anything.
3. Damage to peripheral nervous system can be easily detected as it remains localized.
4. These supply information required for the movement of muscles.
5. They have 43 pair of nerves (12 cranial nerves and 31 pairs are spinal nerves).
6. Cranial nerves take their origin from brain and spinal nerves take their origin from spinal cord.
7. It occurs in the periphery of the body.

Central Nervous system
1. Consists of Brain and Spinal cord.
2. Central nervous system is guarded by bone and blood brain barrier.
3. Damage to Central nervous system cannot be repaired easily and affects other organs with it.
4. It coordinates all neural functions.
5. They have nerve cells and glial cells.
6. Brain and spinal cord are continuous with each other.
7. Occur in dorsal body cavity.
