The corrosion of Iron reacts with air and moisture to form hydrated Iron oxide which is called Rust. This rust is red in color.

$4 F e + 3 O_{2} + x . H_{2} O \to F e_{2} O_{3 .} x H_{2} O$ (red)

In corrosion of Copper it reacts with air and moisture and form a green layer of CuCO₃ and Cu(OH)₂.

$C u + H_{2} 0 + C O_{2} \to C u C O_{3} . C u (O H)_{2}$ (green)
