Question

difference between drift current and normal current ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The flow of charge i.e current through a conductor are of two types namely drift current and normal current

the main difference are:-

1.)Driving force

Normal current may occur even there isn’t an electric field in the semiconductor material.

while,Drift current requires the presence of external electric field.

2.)mathematical dependence

The magnitude of normal current dependence of the slope of the carrier concentration not on the concentration itself.

Drift current depend on the concentration of the semiconductor material.

3.)direction

Normal current flow in the direction of slope of carrier concentration and it obeys ohm's law.

While drift current flows in the direction of electric field and it also depends on the ohm’s law.
