  • The Gonds were a tribe that lived in the region of central India that was known as Gondwana. They were divided into a number of small clans and practiced shifting cultivation. Each clan had its own raja or rai. The kingdoms had a centralised administration. Each kingdom was divided into garhs that were controlled by a particular clan. Garhs were further divided into units of 84 villages each which were known as chaurasi.
