Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels. Their wall is formed from a single layer of endothelium resting on the basement membrane. Usually, arteries carry oxygenated blood but the only exception is the pulmonary artery. The right ventricle that pumps the deoxygenated blood, into a single thick vessel known as the pulmonary aorta which then divides into various pulmonary arteries and they carry the blood to the lungs for oxygenation. Veins are the thin-walled, carrying deoxygenated blood from the tissues to the heart. The oxygenated blood or the lungs is returned to the left auricle by the help of pulmonary veins.
