Difference between slip ring and split ring in terms of its function

In both ac generators and in dc generators the emf induced and hence currents induced is of alternating nature.
sliprings are used in ac generators through which ac signal if fed to the external circuits through brushes.
in case of dc generators , split rings are employed which converts the induced alternating signal into unidirectional signals and the unidirectional signl is fed to the output through brushes.
