Question

difference between soft iron magnet and hard magnet

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student ,
The differences are given below :

1. Hard magnetic material have large hysteresis loss. Soft iron magnet have low hysteresis loss.

2. Domain wall moment is difficult in hard magnet whereas domain wall moment is relatively easier in soft iron magnet.

3. In the hard magnet, coercivity & retentivity are large. In the soft iron magnet coercivity & retentivity are small.

4. Hard magnetic material cannot be easily magnetized & demagnetized. Soft iron magnets can be easily magnetized & demagnetized.

5. Magneto static energy is large in the hard magnet. Magneto static energy is small in the soft iron magnet.

6. Hard magnets have small values of permeability and susceptibility Soft iron magnets have large values of susceptibility and permeability.

7. hard magnets can be used to make permanent magnets. Soft iron magnets can be used to make electromagnets.
