Question

difference between solar cooker in which we use plane mirror and concave mirror

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Their are different types of solar cookers

plane mirrors are used in box type solar cooker so that it will reflect light ray which further pass through a transparent medium(glass) and get converted into infrared ray. The longer infrared rays are not able to pass back out through the glass (transparent) covering and are thus retained inside the box.

concave mirrors are also used in solar cooker but not in box type solar cooker because they are used to concentrate the sunlight at a particular point(focus) in this type of solar cooker no transparent medium(glass) is used.

plane mirror reflect all the rays into the box which is cover with a glass.

Plane Mirrors are used as they increase the amount of sunlight falling on the glass surface of the cooker. The total sunlight used for cooking would become = Sunlight falling directly on the glass + Sunlight reflected from the mirror.
