Question

Difference between the action of concentrated acids and dilute acids on metals.

Open in App
Solution

Dilute acids act as general acids liberating H2 gas when they react with metals. Concentrated acids, on the other hand, exhibit their special properties when in the concentrated state. Conc. H2SO4 acts as a dehydrating agent. It pulls out an H2O molecule from the compound to which it is exposed. Conc. HNO3 acts as a strong oxidizing agent.
