1. The main function of the xylem is the conduction of water and minerals from the roots upwards to the leaves. 1. The main function of phloem is to transport the food prepared by leaves to different parts of a plant.
2. Xylem is basically composed of 4 structures- Vessels, tracheids, xylem fibres and xylem parenchyma.2. Phloem is composed of four types of cells: sieve tubes, companion cells, phloem parenchyma and phloem fibres.
3. Xylem parenchyma are the only living cells.3. Sieve tubes are the only living cells.
