Question

Different between fuse and miniature circuit breakers?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

The function of a fuse wire is to protect the house hold appliances from getting damaged due to unusual high current. Unusual high current may be due to short circuit, power fluctuation in the electric line etc. The fuse wire melts and break the circuit whenever there is any overload fault in the household circuitry.

MCB is the short form for Miniature Circuit Breaker. It is an electronic device that detect fault in electrical connectivity and prevents short circuit by by discontinuing current flow in the household circuitry. Unlike an electrical fuse, we don't have to replace the MCB every time it breaks the circuit.
