The different methods of collecting revenue by the East India Company were
1. Permanent settlement: This was a revenue system in Bengal. Under this system, zamindars were made responsible for collecting revenue from tenant peasants and depositing it with the British government.
2. Ryotwari system: This was a revenue system in South India. Under this system, individual peasants called ryots were given ownership of land and were responsible for paying taxes to the British government.
3. Mahalwari system: This was a revenue system in north west India. Under this system, the village as a whole was responsible for paying taxes to the British.
