Aerobic respiration-
Breakdown of glucose in presence of oxygen.
The complete breakdown of glucose to carbon dioxide and water
Release a high amount of energy.
Anaerobic respiration-
Takes place in absence of oxygen
Partial breakdown of glucose into ethanol or lactic acid depending on the pathway.
Releases a lower amount of energy.
The common pathway in both of these is the glycolysis that takes place in the cytoplasm.
