Oxides

Oxide is a chemical compound that contains at least one oxygen atom and one other element in its chemical formula.

Acidic oxide

Basic oxide

Amphoteric oxide

Neutral oxide

Acidic oxides are the oxides of non-metals. They dissolve in water to produce acids.Basic oxides are the oxides of metals. They are usually insoluble in water.Amphoteric oxides are metallic oxides that show both basic and acidic properties.Neutral oxides show neither basic nor acidic properties. This means that they do not form salt while reacting with acids or bases.
Acidic oxides turns blue litmus red.Basic oxides turns red litmus blue.Amphoteric oxide shows no change in litmus paper.Neutral oxides do not affect litmus paper.
