Question

Differentiate balanced and unbalanced forces with an example each.

Open in App
Solution

Differences between balanced and unbalanced forces are as follows:

Balanced force

Unbalanced force

  1. A balanced system of forces is a system in which the net force is zero.
  2. Example: When an external force acting on a block placed on the ground is equal to the friction force acting on the block in opposite direction, then the block does not move as the forces are balanced.
  1. In an unbalanced system of forces, the net force is not zero. There is a resultant force in a certain direction, which is the summation of all the individual forces.
  2. Example: When an external force is applied on a block such that external force is greater than the friction force acting on the block moves in the direction of external force due to a net unbalanced force acting in the direction of external force.
