Differentiate between a Suspension and a colloid.
Differences between a Suspension and a colloidal are as follows.
Suspension | Colloid |
The diameter of suspension particles is more than 10-5cm. | The diameter of colloidal particles is between 10-7cm to 10-5cm. |
The particles of suspension settle down when the suspension is kept undisturbed. | The particles of a colloidal solution do not settle down when the colloid is kept undisturbed. |
The particles of suspension can be separated from solvent by the process of filtration. | The particles of colloid can not be separated from solvent by the process of filtration. |
More scattering of light takes place in suspensions, because of the bigger size of particles. | The particles of a colloidal solution scatter light. when a strong beam of light is passed through the colloidal solution, the path of the beam becomes visible(Tyndall effect). |
A suspension are opaque in nature. | Colloidal solutions are not transparent, but translucent in nature. |
The particles of a suspension solution are visible to naked eyes. | The particles of a colloidal solution are visible under a powerful microscope. |
