(a) Thigmotropism and geotroprism

(b) Phototropism and chemotropism

Open in App
Solution

a)Geotropism on the other hand is how plants grow in relation to the force of gravity. ... Geo means earth and tropism means growth. So growth with respect to earth is called geotropism. Roots have +ve geotropism whereas shoot has -ve geotropism. Similarly phototropism refers to growth with respect to light mainly sunlight.

b)Phototropism is directional growth in which the direction of growth is determined by the direction of the light source. In other words, it is the growth and response to a light stimulus.

e.g. The growth of stems of plants towards light is an example of positive phototropism.

Chemotropism is growth of organisms (or parts of organism) such as bacteria and plants, navigated by chemical stimulus from outside of the organism

e.g. The growth of pollen tube towards the ovule in the ovary (through the stigma and style) is an example of positive chemotropism.
