Differentiate between absorption and assimilation.
Absorption: In this process, the digested food within the small intestine is now transported to the blood via the help of villi on the inner walls of the small intestine.
Assimilation: The digested food absorbed by the blood via villi is then carried to all the cells of the body. In these cells, digested food is burnt in order to produce energy for the functioning of the body, and this entire process is known as assimilation.
Absorption | Assimilation |
This takes place between the small intestine and the blood vessels. | This involves blood in the blood vessels and the tissues throughout the body. |
This process is necessary for the assimilation of digested food. | This process is necessary for respiration to begin for obtaining energy from the food. |
It is performed by the villi in the small intestine. | It is performed by the blood within the blood vessels. |
