Question

Differentiate between Anaphase I and Anaphase II

Open in App
Solution

  1. Anaphase I is one of the most important phases in the meiotic division of cells. During anaphase I, spindle fibers shrink, seperating the chromosomes of a homologous pair. Separated chromosomes move towards opposite poles.
  2. Anaphase II happens in second meiotic division. During anaphase II spindle fibres shrink and pulling the chromatids. Chromatids moves apart to the opposite poles.

Anaphase I

Anaphase II

1. Anaphase I takes place during Meiosis I1. Anaphase II takes place during Meiosis II.
2. No splitting up of centromere.2. Centromere of chromosome splits into two.
3. Chromosome of homologous pair separate and move towards poles.3. Chromatids of a chromosome separate and move towards poles.
