Ions: It is defined as charged atom or molecule which is formed by the gain or loss of electrons.

For example Na+ , Cl-

It is of two types cation and anion.

AnionCation
Ions having a negative chargeIons having a positive charge
The size of the anion is larger than its parent atomThe size of the cation is smaller than its parent atom
It has more electrons than the protons It has more protons than the electrons
Anions are indicated with a minus sign (-)Cations are indicated with a plus sign (+)
Example: Cl- (Chloride ion), F- (Fluoride ion) Example: Na+(Sodium-ion), K+ (Potassium ion)
