Differentiate between ascending and descending loop of henle.
Nephrons
Each kidneys are made up of more than 1 million nephrons. Nephron are the structural and functional unit of kidney.
Loop of Henle
It is a hair pin like structure found in the nephrons that runs into the medulla of kidney. It has a descending limb and ascending limb.
The difference between the ascending and descending loop of Henle are as follow:
Ascending Loop of Henle | Descending Loop of Henle |
It is the thicker segment of the loop of Henle. | It is the thinner segment of the loop of Henle. |
It is impermeable to water | It is permeable to water and hence, allows the reabsorption of water |
It is permeable to electrolyte and hence, allows the absorption of electrolytes during tubular reabsorption. | It is impermeable to electrolytes. |
