Differentiate between coelomate, acoelomate and pseudocoelomate with examples.
Coelom: - The coelom is the fluid-filled body cavity present between the alimentary canal and the body wall.
On the basis of the absence or presence of coelom in the body, animals can be divided as coelomate, acoelomate and pseudocoelomate. Differentiation between these are as follows: -
S.No. | Coelomate | Acoelomate | Pseudocoelomate |
1 | The animals that are having true coeloms are called coelomates. | The animals in which the body cavity i.e., the coelom is absent are called acoelomates. | The animals in which the body cavity is present but it is not completely lined by mesoderm, instead it is present as scattered pouches in between the ectoderm and endoderm are called pseudocoelomates. |
2 | The blastocoel is completely replaced by a true coelom. | The blastocoel is completely occupied by mesoderm. | The blastocoel is partly filled by mesodermal cells. |
3 | Examples include annelids, molluscs, and arthropods. | Examples include porifera, coelenterata, platyhelminthes (flatworms). | Examples include aschelminthes (roundworms). |
