Question

Differentiate between contraction in solid, liquid and gas.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student, Contraction means decrease in volume of a substance. When a substance undergoes contraction, its particle size remains size but the inter particle spaces decreases. Hence, the state of matter in which inter particle spaces are more, then contraction is more. Gases contract the most as these have maximum interparticle spaces. So, the solids contract least while gases contract most. Regards
