Estrogens are secreted by the theca interna of ovarian follicles. Progesterone is mainly secreted by corpus luteum in non-pregnant women and in early months of pregnancy.
The secretion of estrogens is stimulated by the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) of the anterior pituitary. Luteotropic hormone (LTH) of anterior pituitary stimulates the secretion of progesterone.
It stimulate secondary sex organs in females It causes growth and functional changes in sex organs in non-pregnant female.
