Ganga river System Narmada river System
The total drainage basin of Ganga extends over an area of 1,080,000 sq km. The total drainage basin of Narmada extends over an area of 98,796 sq km.
It is originated from the confluence of two streams Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, at Devprayag. It originates from small bowl, known as the Narmada Kund, located on Amarkantak hill.
It forms delta in the Eastern part of India and falls into Bay of Bengal. It forms Estuary in Western part of India and falls in Arabian Sea.
It covers a large areas in the states of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. It covers large areas in the states of Madhya Pradesh , Gujarat and a smaller area in Maharashtra.
The major tributaries of Ganga are Karnali, Mahakhali, Gandak, (Kosi), Ghaghra, Yamuna, Son, Mahananda, Chambal etc. The major tributaries of Narmada are Shakkar River,Dudhi River,
Tawa River, Ganjal River,Chhota Tawa River,
Kundi River, Goi River,Karjan River,Hiran River,
Tendoni River,Barna River, Kolar River,
Man River, Uri River,Hatni River, Orsang River etc.
