Question

Differentiate between Gravitational Constant and Acceleration due to gravitation. State laws of gravitation and Laws of conservation of energy.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,
G stands for the universal gravitational constant, whereas g stands for the gravitational acceleration at a certain point. G is a constant throughout space and time, but g is a variable quantity. Gravitational acceleration depends on the universal gravitational constant, but the universal gravitational constant is independent of the gravitational acceleration.
The universal law of gravitation states that the force of attraction between two masses m 1 and m 2 separated by a distance r is directly proportional to the product of the masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the masses.
Law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither created nor destroyed but it can change from one form of energy into other. Total energy before and after tansformation remains same, law of conversation of energy is valid for all situations.
