  3. The nervous tissue present in the central nervous system has two components, namely, grey matter and white matter.

White Matter

The main composition of grey matter is nerve cell bodies.The white matter mainly consists of nerve fibres or axons.
It has a very low number of axons covered with a myelin sheath.It has a large number of axons covered with a myelin sheath.
It is involved in the processing of information.It is involved in transferring information between grey matter and other body parts.
