Differentiate between lyophilic and lyophobic colloids:

Lyophilic colloidsLyophobic colloids
  1. Colloidal solutions in which the dispersed phase has a considerable affinity for the dispersion medium are called lyophilic (solvent-loving) colloids.
  1. Colloidal solutions in which the dispersed phase has very little affinity or no affinity for the dispersion medium is termed as lyophobic (solvent hating) colloids.
2. Example: Gelatin, protein, and starch. 2. Example: Colloidal solutions of sulphur in water.
