Some minerals (elements) are required for growth and development of a living organism, these elements are called essential elements. It is divided into two groups on the basis of their requirement.
1. Macroelements
2.Microelements
Macroelements are that elements which are required in the large amount to the living organism for the normal physiological process of their body e.g., C, H, N, O, Ca, K, S, P, Mg and Fe.
Whereas microelements are that elements which are required in the small amount to the living organism for the normal physiological process of their body e.g., Zn, Mn, B, Mo, Cl and Ni.
