Differentiate between melting point and boiling point.
Melting point: It is the temperature at which a solid gets converted into a liquid.
Boiling Point: The temperature at which a liquid boils and turns to vapour.
Melting Point | Boiling Point |
It is the temperature at which a solid gets converted into a liquid at atmospheric pressure. | It is the temperature at which a liquid gets converted into its vapour state. |
At this temperature, the solid phase is in equilibrium with the liquid phase. | At this temperature, the liquid phase is in equilibrium with the vapour phase. |
For example- The melting point of ice is i.e., at this point ice is converted into water and ice is in equilibrium with the water. | For example- The boiling point of ice is i.e., at this point water is converted into water vapour and water is in equilibrium with the vapour phase. |
