Differentiate between mitochondria and chloroplast.
Mitochondria:
Mitochondria is a small rod-like structure found in the cytoplasm of both animal and plant cell.
Chloroplast:
Chloroplast is a double membranous green plastid found only in cells of plants and photosynthetic organisms.
Mitochondria | Chloroplast |
1. Mitochondria is colorless because it does not contain any pigments. | 1. Chloroplast is green in color because it has a green coloured pigment called chlorophyll. |
2. Mitochondria is rod-shaped. | 2. Chloroplast is oval, spherical or discoid in shape. |
3. Inner membrane of mitochondria has irregular folds known as cristae. | 3. Inner membrane of chloroplast is not folded. |
4. Mitochondria is considered as powerhouse of cell because it releases energy. | 4. Chloroplast trap sunlight for the production of food. |
5. Mitochondria is involved in the oxidation of food. | 5. Chloroplast is involved in photosynthesis. |
