Notochord and nerve cord are two characteristic features of chordates. Notochord is a skeletal rod and nerve cord is a solid strand of nervous tissue.
A nerve cord is a solid strand of nervous tissue, forming part of central nervous system.
A notochord is a primitive beginning to the backbone.The notochord is a flexible rod made out of a material similar to cartilage.

The main difference between the two is that notochord is a part of skeleton system whereas nerve cord is a part of nervous system.
