Differences between pisciculture and aquaculture are as follows:
Criteria Pisciculture Aquaculture
Definition Pisciculture is a technique used for the cultivation of marine and freshwater fishes in isolated water bodies for the purpose of human consumption. Aquaculture is a technique used for the cultivation of aquatic organisms for the purpose of obtaining many different economically important substances.
Supply of feed Feed from an external source has to be supplied to the fishes being cultured. There is no need to provide feed from an external source to the aquatic organisms being cultured.
Examples Freshwater fishes such as Catla and rohu and marine fishes such as Salmon and Hilsa. Crabs, lobsters, fishes, etc.
