Plastic is a polymer which does not have the same arrangement of units. In some it is linear, whereas in others it is cross-linked or branched.

Polythene (poly + ethene) is an example of a plastic which is made by combining the chemical ethene and have the same arrangement of ethene in it. It is commonly used for making polythene bags.
