Question

Differentiate between reduction electrode potential and oxidation potential with examples. Do not provide any links

Open in App
Solution

(i) Oxidation potential: When electrode is negatively charged with respect to solution, i.e., it acts as anode. Oxidation occurs. M ---> Mn+ + e- (loss of electron)
(ii) Reduction potential: When electrode is positively charged with respect to solution, i.e., it acts as cathode. (gain of electron)
Mn+ + e- ---> M
