Question

Differentiate between regulators and conformers.

Open in App
Solution

Regulators: They remain in homeostasis, that is, they have internal regulatory mechanisms to control their internal environments. They are endothermic, they can generate heat internally to regulate their internal body temperature. Their body fluids have a fixed osmotic concentration. They have a wide range of distribution. They are very active creatures.

Conformers: They have little homeostasis and are ectothermic - their body temperature changes according to their environment, Osmotic concentration of body fluids varies according to that of the external medium. They consume lesser amount of energy. They have a narrow range of distribution. They are less active creatures.
