Differentiate between Rolling, Static, and sliding friction

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

Static Friction
It is the friction that exists between a stationary object and the surface on which it's resting. It's highest in magnitude
Eg:-A lady pushing a box.
Sliding friction
It is the resistance created by two objects sliding against each other. It's smaller than static but higher than rolling
Eg:-rubbing hands together to create heat.
Rolling friction:-
It is the force resisting the motion when a body rolls on a surface. It's lowest in magnitude as compared to others
Eg:-Ball rolling down on table
