Differentiate between solids, liquids and gases.
The difference between solids, liquids, and gases are as follows:
Solids | Liquids | Gases |
1.Solids have high strong intermolecular forces between the molecules | 1.The intermolecular forces are stronger than gases but weaker than solids. | 1.The intermolecular forces are practically non-existent or they minimum force of attraction. |
2. Solids have a fixed shape and a fixed volume. | 2. Liquids have a fixed volume but they have no fixed shape. | 2. Gases have neither a fixed shape nor a fixed volume. |
3. Solids cannot be compressed much. | 3. Like solids, liquids also cannot be compressed much. | 3. Gases can be compressed easily. |
4.. Solids have high densities. They are heavy. | 4. Liquids have moderate to high densities. They are usually less denser than solids. | 4. Gases have very low densities. They are very, very light. |
5. Solids do not take the shape of the container. | 5. Liquid takes the shape of its container. | 5. Like liquids, gases also filled in container taking the shape of container. |
6. For example, ice, iron rod etc. | 6. For example, water, juices etc. | 6. For example, oxygen , nitrogen etc. |
