Definition A substance that dissolve in a solvent to form solution is called solute. A substance that have dissolving capacity and can dissolve another substances is called solvent.
Physical state Solute can be in all three state i.e. solid,liquid and gas. Most of the solvent are in liquid state but sometime it can be solid or gaseous.
Solubility The solubility of solute depends on the properties of state of a solute . The solubility of solvent depends on the properties of solvent.
Boiling point Usually higher than solvent. Usually lower than solute.
