Question

Differentiate between the following:

Active transport and diffusion

Open in App
Solution

The difference between Active transport and Diffusion is as follows:-

Serial NumberActive TransportDiffusion
1The use of energy to transport nutrients across the cell membrane against a concentration gradient. The flow of nutrients across the cell membrane without the use of energy. The flow happens through channel proteins in the membrane.
2Transport occurs from low to high concentration against the concentration gradient.Transport occurs along a gradient from high to low concentration.
3In this method, energy(ATP) is required to transport molecules. In this case, energy is not required to transport molecules.
4The movement of glucose into or out of a cell is an example of active transport.Diffusion allows dissolved sodium and potassium ions to flow across the cell membrane.
