Differentiate between the following.
Atomicity and Valency
Atomicity | Valency |
The number of atoms present in one molecule of an element is called its atomicity. | It is the combining capacity of an atom of an element with other atoms is known as valency. |
For example, for the Oxygen molecule , the atomicity of the Oxygen atom is two and it is a diatomic molecule. | The valencies of some common elements are as follows: Carbon: 4; Oxygen: 2; Hydrogen: 1; Nitrogen: 3. |
