Legislative Assembly Legislative Council
1. The Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the State Legislature. 1. The Legislative Council is the upper house of the State Legislature.
2. The members are directly elected by the people. 2. The members are indirectly elected
3. Legislative Assembly members are elected for a term of 5 years 3. Legislative Council members are elected for a term of 6 years.
4. It is not a permanent body which means it can be dissolved before completion of 5 years 4. It is a permanent body and cannot be dissolved
5. All the states in India have a Legislative Assembly 5. Only 6 states in India have a Legislative Council – Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
