  • The Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the State Legislature.
  • The Legislative Council is the upper house of the State Legislature.
  • The members are directly elected by the people.
  • The members are indirectly elected.
  • Legislative Assembly members are elected for a term of 5 years.
  • Legislative Council members are elected for a term of 6 years.
  • It is not a permanent body which means it can be dissolved before completion of 5 years.
  • It is a permanent body and cannot be dissolved.
  • All the states in India have a Legislative Assembly.
  • As of 2022, Only 6 states in India have a Legislative Council – Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
