This process is used to separate small unwanted solid substances from a mixture manually i.e. by hand. This process is used to separate small, lighter solid particles from heavier solid particles by blowing air.
For example, Small pebbles and solid impurities can be handpicked from rice and pulses. For example, Lighter husk and chaff particles can be separated from rice using winnowing.
