Open in App
Solution

Intermolecular space:

  • It is the space present between different molecules.
  • On the basis of intermolecular space three states of matter can be differentiated as follow:

SOLID

LIQUID

GAS

1. Particles have a strong intermolecular force of attraction.1. Particles have less intermolecular force of attraction as compared to solids.1. Particles have a very less intermolecular force of attraction as compared to solids and liquids.
2. Due to the strong intermolecular force of attraction between particles distance between particles is negligible.2. Due to moderate intermolecular force of attraction between particles distance between particles is more in comparison to solids.2. Due to the weak intermolecular force of attraction between particles distance between particles is more in comparison to solids and liquids.
3. Example: Sugar crystals3. Example: Alcohol3. Example: Nitrogen gas
