Egg: Sperm:
1. It is the gametes produced by the females of that species. 1. It is the gametes produced by the males of that species.
2. It is immotile and large in size. It contains a large amount of cytoplasm and adequate nutrition along with all cell organelles. 2. It is motile and small in size. It contains a very limited amount of cytoplasm, nucleus and very less mitochondria.
3. They are metabolically active and live only upto 24 hours in proper environment 3. They are metabolically passive and can live upto 3 to 5 days after entering the female reproductive system.
4. One ovum is released at a time. 4. Millions of sperms are released at one time.
