Digestion does not occur in which of the following parts of the digestive system?
Large intestine
The process of digestion starts as soon as food enters the mouth. Enzymes in our saliva mainly digest starch in food. Acids in the stomach continue breaking down the food and the food particles enter the small intestine where digestion of some components of food happens and the nutrients are absorbed. The process of digestion technically ends here as the remaining waste is moved to the large intestine where it is stored and finally expelled through the anus.
