Digestion takes place in the alimentary canal or the digestive tract. Food travels through these organs in the following order:
Mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and rectum
Food is taken in our body through the mouth. After chewing it makes its way to the stomach via the oesophagus or the food pipe. After partial digestion in the stomach, it enters small intestine where nutrients are absorbed from the broken food. At last, it enters the large intestine where water is reabsorbed from the food. At last, it is excreted via the rectum.
