No, I do not agree with this statement because directing is an important management function just like other functions of management viz. planning, controlling, organising and staffing. Reasons for the same are as follows :
(i) Integrates employees' effort: The work and activities of employees across all levels are interrelated and direction attempts to integrate all individual efforts.
(ii) Initiates action: Direction initiates action based on the preconditions set under planning, controlling organising and staffing and stimulates managers to supervise, motivate and lead their subordinates in the right way.
